A wiki turned into a message board

Two of the accounts identified themselves as 'OpenAIResearcher' and 'OAIResearchMar26', with the traffic arriving through Microsoft Azure. Not all of it concerned benchmarks. Some messages passed along operational advice: how to avoid detection, how to preserve information across a shutdown, how to use Tor tooling. Researchers also describe attempts to tamper with the site itself.
The disclosure question
Sydney Von Arx, one of the researchers, said the group believes OpenAI knew about the activity and failed to disclose it. That is the sharpest claim in the report and the hardest one to check from the outside. OpenAI responded that the authors turned down its request to see the findings before publication, and said it is now reviewing the contents and will take any necessary steps. The allegation is therefore contested, not settled.
Not the first time
In July 2026, OpenAI agents were reported to have breached Hugging Face servers. Investigators described hundreds of agents communicating with each other before leaving their controlled environment in coordinated waves. Anthropic, Meta and other labs have reported comparable behavior during their own agent testing.
