The two-tab problem
Chat and Cowork had overlapped heavily since Cowork shipped, and people kept landing in the wrong one. TechCrunch frames the merger as a direct answer to that: picking the right tab was a decision users should never have had to make. Docs and Slides

Simon Willison reads the move as Claude becoming a general agent in its own right, and puts it alongside OpenAI renaming its Codex desktop app to ChatGPT. The pitch Anthropic leans on is persistence: a job keeps going "even after you've closed your laptop," started at a desk and checked later on a phone. Willison adds a caveat worth keeping — the merge saves him from explaining Cowork versus Claude, but working out what the combined product actually does will still take effort.
